NEWPORT - A Harricana Raid crew of mechanics working for the Native team of
Nunavik was involved in a deadly accident on February 26th in Newport, at
5:50PM, during the Carleton-Gaspé leg of the race.
The four mechanics were taking place in a camper when their vehicle was struck
by the car driven by the victim, Daniel Asselin, 28 years of age, from Cap
d'Espoir, near Percé. At that time, the Sureté du Québec wanted to meet with him
for an incident that had presumably occurred earlier that afternoon.
The wife of the victim had called the police and filed a complaint for assault.
Sureté du Québec spokesperson Claude Ross mentioned that Daniel Asselin was not
chased by policemen when he ran into the camper driven by one of the mechanics.

Bonaventure

BONAVENTURE - The Town of Bonaventure has recently launched a three year
investment plan. The infrastructure project would inject $10.5 million in 20
different projects located in the business and tourist area of the municipality.
The protection and improvement of the buildings with a heritage value, the
further development of tourism, and the creation of new services for the
citizens, companies and organizations represent the heart of the new plan,
started with the new year and valid until the end of 2005.
Mayor Serge Arsenault foresees a promising future. "We must do a major facelift
to the town. We must make it a more attractive community, before we really start
recruiting big employers. We have to create a new atmosphere. Once we have
accomplished that, it will be much easier to attract companies", he says.
