Cross Point ski centre ready for
the Canada Games
Gilles Gagne
CROSS POINT - The Mont Restigouche ski centre in Cross Point is
ready for the Canada Games, according to his owner, Wellie
Desrochers, who has just completed the installation of the new
ski tow that will allow skiers to reach the second summit of his
winter station.
The Games are organized by the towns of Campbellton and Bathurst,
with the collaboration of the municipalities located in between,
such as Dalhousie, where the village of the athletes has been
built.
Since there is no ski centre with high mountains in Northern New
Brunswick, and considering the fact that Mont Restigouche could
offer the potential to satisfy the requirements of the officials
of Ski Canada, it was decided a couple of years ago that the
Cross Point winter station would be picked for the Super G and
slalom competitions.
Government signs
agreement to ensure lower airfare
Charlene Eden
The provincial government and Air Canada have signed an agreement on regional air service that will enable people to travel at reduced rates, if they book their flights in advance. The agreement, which covers a three-year period, is argued to offer citizens quality and affordable air transportation in the region. However, only half of all available seats will have a reduced rate.
According to the agreement, the price of a seat could be reduced by as much as 70%. But the rate of reduction will depend on how many days ahead a traveller books a flight. Booking a ticket from Gaspe to Quebec City ten days in advance will reduce the price from $471 to $139. Five days notice will result in a fare of $179, while booking three days in advance will cost a traveler $219. Reserving a ticket the day before the flight will result in a fare of $269.
