Junex to invest $2.5 million to
improve gas production near Gasp
Gilles Gagne
The managers of Junex Incorporated, a small firm that
has been exploiting a gas field near the town of Gaspe since last
year, have convinced Hydro-Quebec to invest with them an amount
of $2.5 million in order to dig another well in the viscinity of
the well already exploited by Junex in that area.
Other partners, R.S.P. Hydro and Gestion Bernard Lemaire, are
involved in the new joint venture. They were already particpating
with Junex in the field open in January 2002. This field has a
confirmed reserve of 728 million cubic feet of gas. The digging
of the new field will start around Mid-Spetember and its depth
could reach 2.35 kilometers. The work is already started around
the site, located about one kilometer away from the first well.
Quebec police abandon inquiry in
Linda Condo murder case
Sherbrooke Police Force in the Gaspe to investigate Eastern
Townships murder
Gilles Gagne
The Surete du Quebec could abandon its investigation in order to
solve the Linda Condo murder case, reopened in May 2001 by the
new squad created to re-examine at least half a dozen mysterious
murder files which occured in the Gaspe over the last 15 years.
The Linda Condo file was the first one to be investigated by the
new "Escouade regionale d'enquetes specifiques". Five
investigators started from scratch in reviewing the case, first
by analyzing all the details of the Linda Condo murder, then by
meeting with all the witnesses of the first inquiry, and new
people as well. These policemen had not worked at all on the
cases previously, in order to re-evaluate them with new eyes.
The SQ went as far as being able to submit a suspect's sample of
corporal substance to the laboratory for DNA identification,
something that could not be done easily in October 1988 when
Linda Condo was found dead in a Miguasha forest road. Mrs Condo
had been shot in the face, somewhere after October 14th, 1988,
when she last seen alive. She was found 11 days later. DNA
methods were not common back then.
Quebec Government to study
Murdochville case for two weeks
Gilles Gagne
Unable to take a quick decision about the future of Murdochville,
the Government of Quebec has decided to create a ministerial
committee to examine all the options linked to the future of the
town, following the consultative referendum held on August 25th.
Two thirds of the population of the town voted for the closure of
the municipality, but the fact that 35 percent of its inhabitants
still want to try to develop new avenues for Murdochville has
convinced the Cabinet that a quick decision could be a mistake.
