CAPLAN - ACI Telecentrics needs more employees for its Caplan call centre. The company employs 100 people at the present time, but its managers need 50 more telephone operators and supervisors before the end of September and they want to reach the 300 employee level in December.
"We need people! We are starting another campaign of massive recruiting. We did a little recruiting at our 'Open door' activity, but it was not the main objective of that day. We wanted to show to the public our call centre, and we wanted to thank the people who have helped us in the realization of this project", explained Danielle St. Vincent, ACI Telecentrics' spokesperson for the three Quebec call centres of the Minnesota based company.
About 1,000 people showed up to visit the call centre on August 22nd, a surprising turn out, said Danielle St. Vincent, who is satisfied with the quality of the manpower recruited so far.

Almost six years after its foundation, the Gaspe Railway Corporation, or Corporation du chemin de fer de la Gaspesie, is negociating with the two major levels of government in order to get enough financial means to make both ends meet until the revival of freight traffic between Chandler and Gaspe.
The Gaspe Railway Corporation was not far from reaching profitability in November 2001 when Noranda Inc. announced that the Murdochville smelter would be closed for an undetermined amount of time, only to announce a permanent closure of its foundry four months later. The transportation company then lost its major freight client.

Trudel says his government must respect the results of the referendum

Quebec's Minister of Regions, Remy Trudel, said his government must take into account the results of the Murdochville consultative referendum held on August 25th, since two thirds of the town's population have expressed the desire to close it. But, unless his Cabinet colleagues decide otherwise, the relaunching committee of Murdochville will keep on working for a while on some projects that could save the town.
If these projects cannot be realized in Murdochville, the committee will try to find another Gaspe town to locate them, he also said to SPEC. Asked to explain why he did not come to Murdochville before the referendum to explain the projects the committee was working on, Minister Trudel said that the projects were not ready for an announcement. On July 2nd, he had committed himself for another visit on or around August 20th.
