NEW RICHMOND - The New Richmond based Groupement forestier
Baie-des-Chaleurs recently created a subsidiary, Activa
Environnement, which will take care of projects and studies
related to specialized fields such as biology, ecology, geomatic
and high technology applied to forestry. In the process, the new
firm hires many young, university trained Gaspesians.
The Groupement forestier was launched in 1973 in order to develop
a competent manpower in sylviculture work, on private land as
well as public land. About 400 people own the shares of the
Groupement, which employs up to 150 workers during the high
season of sylviculture. But environmental preoccupations slowly
pushed the company to explore other technical fields.
